John Kosta Defterios is an American journalist and media executive. He is currently an anchor and correspondent on CNN International and host of the program Marketplace Middle East.

Career

Defterios graduated from the University of Southern California in 1984 with degrees in journalism and political science. He worked for Reuters Television from 1984 to 1992, serving as European correspondent and special series producer for Nightly Business Report, a joint venture with PBS.[1][2] He joined CNN in 1992, and hosted World Business Today from 1994 to 1996.[1][3] He has also served as anchor of Ahead of the Curve and Business Unusual and as correspondent for Moneyline with Lou Dobbs.[2][3] In October 2007, Defterios began hosting Marketplace Middle East on CNN International.[3] He is also currently CNN's Emerging Markets Editor.[2]

Personal life

Defterios married Manuela Mirkos, at the time an employee of The New York Times, in a Greek Orthodox ceremony on the island of Sifnos in 2002.[4] His previous marriage ended in divorce.[4]
