So then what's the point in spending hours reverting vandalism? It's the subtle factual vandalism like changing dates, names, places, etc that are difficult to detect and can actually mislead readers. Those are the biggest threat to Wikipedia's credibility and I have neither the time nor desire to research those kind of changes. For that reason, I think I'm done fighting vandals on Wikipedia. And since fighting vandals is about 99% of my edits, I guess that means I'm done with Wikipedia. |

I used to fight vandalism quite a bit, enough to get rollback rights and start using huggle. Then I realized my efforts were in vain. Since I only reverted obvious vandalism, I almost always left in the most damning changes: factual errors. No one is going to get confused by seeing 'boobs' or 'penis' or 'Mike rules!' or 'HI!!!!' in an article. They will simply revert it themselves or dismiss it as vandalism and continue reading.
Also, I feel a little bit like Dexter Morgan. I don't really enjoy reverting vandalism or helping Wikipedia, but I do it to fit in. In reality, I get much more pleasure out of making things difficult for people that I feel are not good faith editors. I generally do this through the use of proxies so as to be slightly more discrete. Like Dexter, if editors here knew what I was doing, they would probably agree that my actions are for the best of the project, although they would have to reprimand me for my behavior.
