Hi there!
Hi there, 295th. I just wanted to drop you a more detailed note on why your article has been nominated for deletion. Wikipedia has a number of guidelines concerning how notable something (a military unit, a person, software, a car etc) has to be to have an article on wikipedia. The key is for there to be significant reliable sources that mention the subject of the article in significant detail, and not just in passing - ie national newspapers, but more usually books or other reliable sources that haven't been self-published, such as on lulu.com or by a vanity press. I'm sorry to say that, despite being an airborne enthusiast on here and writing a number of airborne-related articles, a search online and through my sources shows that the 295th was not notable enough to warrant an article.

Please don't take this as any criticism of yourself or the unit itself, it is simply the rules of wikipedia; for military history-related articles, general notability has found to exist autonmatically at battalion level or above, and often not even then. Smaller units, even combat ones, don't meet notability guidelines as there aren't enough sources that specifically mention them - the odd exception proves the rule really, like Easy Company, 506th Infantry Regiment, the infamous 'Band of Brothers' which has received significant attention in the press and in reliable sources such as books. I'd like to apologize again that your introduction to wikipedia was in such a way, and hope that you will continue to contribute. Please let me know on my talkpage if you have any questions. Skinny87 (talk) 09:19, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Revision as of 09:19, 21 June 2010

The article 295th Ordnance Heavy Maintenance Company (FA) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

A completely non notable military unit. Most of the text of the article consists of non notable training and deployments of the said unit.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing dated prod will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Safiel (talk) 00:29, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated 295th Ordnance Heavy Maintenance Company (FA), an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/295th Ordnance Heavy Maintenance Company (FA). Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message.   — Jeff G. ツ 15:12, 20 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
