Hello, what happened with the picture of the album cover at John Berry (singer) is that you used the Album Infobox template incorrectly, causing the whole article to be tagged for correction at the Albums Project. The Album Infobox has to be used accurately and completely at articles that are actually about albums, which is indeed the case at John Berry (album). I was not aware that you wanted to use the album cover simply as a photo for Berry's biography, but there is a better way do that without using the Album Infobox. I've edited that article accordingly, with the correct use of a photo plus caption. Sincerely, <font face="Calibri"><font color="MediumSeaGreen">D<small>OOMSDAYER</small>520</font> (Talk|Contribs)</font> 17:59, 6 January 2011 (UTC)

RE: et al

I have always been told to wait until I calm down until I post. That is what I have done. Apparently that was misinterpreted.

Sorry, Will, that I was flippant. I have edited the Bell article faithfully everyday for months and it is obvious I had a bad day. I never, ever, intentionally [copy] or try to infringe anybody's copyright. I am truly sorry that it seemed that way. I will from this point stick pretty much to SGV articles and hope the two editors following me to those will cease and desist. Will, you are admirable in your handling of that whole Chinatown non-issue. Thank you.
TY Crohnie for all your much appreciated efforts. You have to keep me because I spell your name right! To all my wonderful admins, I always appreciate you. I am sorry if I upset any of you , it was totally non-intentional. Doc#1, ?? Namaste...DocOfSoc (talk) 15:43, 21 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

sitting in the corner eating humble pie  :-( DocOfSoc (talk) 02:28, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A few minutes of checking turned up this edit, which appears to be a verbatim copy of text contained here. DocOfSoc, what would be helpful right now may be that you stop making new article edits and instead go back over your prior contributions to identify any other places where you have directly copied text from other sources. If you are unclear on the concepts we can help you to understand; and if there are further instances, we need to go about remedying the situation. You obviously copy-pasted this text, right down to missing the line-wrap that combined "bycharter". Please work with us so that we can correct your past mistakes. Franamax (talk) 04:45, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(talk page stalker) Doc#2, I can and will always help you against undeserved harassment, but this is a whole different ball of wax; and I'm concerned. We cannot cut and paste text from copyrighted sources, we can't closely paraphrase it, and we must reference our material. It's not terribly hard to reference things in many different ways, and I can help you with it anytime: I look up Cite book and Cite web all the time because I forget things: but we as editors need to cite stuff despite the often complex and precise bother of working in "wiki code". You're worrying me a bit, because copyvios very strictly prohibited and should never be done for any reason. Think about it: we must reference material for it to truly be of any real encyclopedic value here, and it can't be a copyvio. Work with Franamax here, and this can be cleared up. Cheers :> Doc talk 06:19, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

46, 25 November 2010 (UTC) Happy Thanksgiving all you Stalkers! ;-)
For all of you who have commented here I want you to know that I have made contact with Doc 2. I haven't gotten a response from her but that is not a surprise since she is probably in bed sleeping. I think I explained everything she needs to know about the issues so please let's give her a chance. --CrohnieGalTalk 16:21, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In Philippians it says "Do everything without grumbling or questioning" And so I will follow. Mea Culpa. DocOfSoc (talk) 19:08, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

So to clarify then DocOfSoc, are you going to review your past edits and identify any other instances of direct copying or too-close paraphrasing? If so, please indicate your progress here. I don't know about that Philip guy ;), your grunbling will be cheerfully ignored, but your questions are most welcome. It's important that we get this straightened out. Beyond the risk to Wikipedia's (and your own) reputation, copyright violations carry a risk of a lawsuit, and were such a thing to happen, even if the Foundation could win it there is a chance they would run out of money trying. I'm not saying that you will single-handedly cause all the servers to be shut down or anything, but we take copyvio super-seriously here to be sure there will never be such risk to the project. Franamax (talk) 19:38, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it was St. Paul who said it in his letter to the Phillipians, which I thought succinctly covered what you have asked of me. Clarification? Sure, have already done "Molly Bee". Are you asking for a list of every article I may have goofed on? With Wikipedia resting on my shoulders, I will shlep through the rest of them and hopefully restore what is apparently my tattered reputation, only taking time out to sew the big red "A" on my clothing. With tongue seriously in cheek, I am yours, Hester.DocOfSoc (talk) 20:00, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I'm familiar with the book, I was just trying to make a little joke with the "Philip" thing. :) Yes, it would be good if you could "show your work" or provide some way to review it. Maybe a sub-page? I think I might have to delete the revisions with copyvios, I'll clarify that now off-line. Thanks for your help with this! Franamax (talk) 21:16, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Levy article

I have deliberately not edited the Levy article so I could rate it. I changed to a C because that is all I can do at this point. . It is really well done, at least a B, and ready for GA, IMHO. Happy Thanksgiving! DocOfSoc (talk) 03:11, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I hope the feedback from all the editors has not discouraged any good faith efforts. Everything here thrives on the WP:BRD cycle. Ratings below GA are somewhat informal and users have the discretion to rate other articles up to "B". I often observe reviewers make minor edits to articles for clean up, even during GA review. Here is a ratings guide with criteria for biographical articles that you may find useful. KimChee (talk) 03:30, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Kim Chee, what feedback are you referring to? Also, I have long since memorized the assessment scale but TY! I see things going well for your projects. DocOfSoc (talk) 08:49, 23 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Multiple external links

Hi, I'm beginning to think I should just avoid editing the pages that you edit since you quickly revert me without checking to see if I was following policy, such as in Maywood, California. This is no big deal as most of the work on those articles has been done by you, and I think you're doing a great job, even more so, considering what you are up against. However, you should probably read the policy on external links as to multiple links to same website. WP:EL states-- "In the "External links" section, try to avoid separate links to multiple pages in the same website; instead, try to find an appropriate linking page within the site."

Most of the editing I do relates to cleaning up section titles and the external link sections. Can you please explain to me why I was wrong to remove a link to an individual page of the official website, since the official website is linked? Because wikipedia isn't a directory, the external link section is meant to be kept at the smallest number of links posible. Why is a link to a fun facts page so imporatnt that we can bypass the policy and also link to that page of the official website? Cmr08 (talk) 02:03, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ya!, Please don't stop editing me. I apologize for too quickly rv 'ing you. I really appreciate the kind words and I crave the feedback. TY! You were not wrong on that link policy and I will follow it in the future now that you have explained. I disagree, because I hate to search a website looking for the correct page, but policy is policy. Don't ever hesitate to let me know if I am in error, I am one of those people who like having things explained, and because I speed read I sometimes miss details like the one you just explained so well. Now that you are a real person to me, and a nice one at that, our future interactions will be far better, I promise. Thanks again! Namaste...DocOfSoc (talk) 04:27, 29 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize; it looks like this edit conflicted with yours and took its place. I was going to replace what you wrote, but I think what I said might be more constructive anyway. Dear Kaf,

TYVM for your note. What you said re: Pasadena well done. However, it does not address the issue of this editor following me to articles he never edited before (I checked) and making egregious edits, mostly reverts. I have been dealing with Grayshi for months now in addition to my regular, daily, community banned stalker SRQ (see ANI), since we had an issue over another article, Southern California Chinatowns see (AfD). I understand your comment about wiki-warring, but there is no productive discussing with this editor. If replacing relevant material he keeps continues to delete is WW, sigh. Mea Culpa. I do appreciate your efforts and any wise words or assistance is much appreciated. Namaste..DocOfSoc (talk) 21:55, 8 December 2010 (UTC) P.S after saving, I saw your note, do you want me to move this to my page? DocOfSoc (talk) 21:57, 8 December 2010 (UTC) Duh, you are the Best Kaf, forgive please.DocOfSoc (talk) 23:07, 8 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Update too

Going thru the articles, I am cleaning up as I go along, including other copyright violations that are not mine (whew). Although the process is slow, I believe that the articles will show significant improvement and that my new and old pagestalkers will be pleased. I am feeling better but healing is a process, much like writing. There a couple of problems, I hope will be resolved soon. I do appreciate any input. Parrots

These hardy birds are unique for their survival in Southern California. [1] Ornithologists have established that these parrots are actually no longer feral, because that would suggest they had originally been domesticated; they are wild, breeding birds.[2] The parrots survived and flourished in Pasadena, and in the last 50 years have spread throughout the San Gabriel Valley, Orange County, as far north as the Monterey Peninsula and as far south as San Diego [3][4][5] While their numbers are dwindling in their native habitats, there are about 2,500 wild red-crowned Amazon parrots in some of California’s larger urban cities such as Pasadena.[6] The story of the pet store fire in Pasadena has been repeated so often it has become part of urban folklore. [7] There are many research projects that are tracking the parrot population and growth in other cities throughout central and southern California, among them: Temple City, Bakersfield, Santa Barbara, Riverside, San Diego, San Francisco and San Bernardino and throughout the nation.[8][9][10]

WikiProject Sociology Newsletter: III (December 2010)

Sociology ProjectNews • December 2010
Spreading the meme since August 2006

The Sociology WikiProject third newsletter is out!

According to our April mini-census, we have 15 active members, 6 semi-active ones and 45 inactive. Out of those, 4 active, 3 semi-active and 1 inactive members have added themselves to corresponding categories since the mini-census. The next one is planned, roughly, for sometime next year. The membership list has been kept since 2004.

On that note, nobody has ever studied WikiProjects from the sociological perspective... if you are interesting in researching Wikipedia, see Wikipedia:Research and wiki-research-l listerv.

Moving from research to teaching, did you know that many teachers and instructors are teaching classes with Wikipedia? This idea is getting support from the Wikimedia Foundation, and some really useful tools have been created recently. I have experience with that, having taught several undergad classes, so feel free to ask me questions on that!

And as long as I am talking about professional issues, if any of you is going to any sociological conferences, do post that to our project - perhaps other members are going there too?

In other news: the a automated to do listing reported in the April issue went down shortly afterwards, but seems to be on the path to reactivation. We still have an active tag and assess project, and comparing the numbers to the April report, we have identified about 350 more sociology-related articles (from 1,800 to 2,150) and assessed about 100 (from 1,300 to 1,400).

We now have a listing of most popular sociology-related pages. It is updated on the 1st of every month, starting with August, and reports which of our sociology-tagged articles are most frequently read. Of course, GIGO holds true, so after looking at it right now and trying to determine what is our most popular article, my first action was to shake my head and remove Criminal Minds (which, perhaps not too surprisingly, outranks all sociology articles in period tested). Second item I noticed it this month's Industrial Revolution, beating Criminal Minds, that moved from close to 30th position in August/September, to 9th in October and 2nd in November. If you'd like to discuss this or any other trends, please visit WT:SOCIOLOGY!

Finally, with the reactivation of Article Alerts, we are getting our own here. Bookmark that page so you can keep track of sociology related deletion debates, move debates, good and feature article discussions, and more.

Our first task force (Wikipedia:WikiProject Sociology/Social movements task force) was created (1 June 2010).

If you have basic or better graphic skills, our projects needs a dedicated barnstar (award) (currently the closest we can get is the Society Barnstar.

As always, I highly recommend watchlisting the Wikipedia:WikiProject Sociology page, so you can be aware of the ongoing discussions.

Hi! About this edit... To settle the question of which city it is in, I consulted maps

City of Monterey Park map: http://factfinder.census.gov/servlet/MapItDrawServlet?geo_id=16000US0648914&_bucket_id=50&tree_id=420&context=saff&_lang=en&_sse=on

A higher quality zoning map is on page 20/90 of this document: http://www.ci.monterey-park.ca.us/Modules/ShowDocument.aspx?documentid=7585

Keppel is at 501 East Hellman Avenue, Alhambra, California, USA

It's in Alhambra, but it's adjacent to Monterrey Park. WhisperToMe (talk) 20:11, 27 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sure using "stadium" in a google search won't keep from finding any more additional references for the article. Rewrite:

Alhambra occupies 7.69 square miles and generally has been fully developed since the 1960s, the influx of new business, primarily Asian, has continued to grow and develop even further in the 21st century. Private development and higher densities have increased the population from 54,800 in 1960 to 89,171 in 2009. The City is diversified with single family and multiple family housing development, commercial development, and significant industrial development.
The City has implemented a full range of municipal services. Services provided include police, fire, street maintenance and improvements, trash collection, water and storm drains, recreation, upgraded the library, public improvements, planning zoning, and general administrative and support services.[11]

images

I get that we're probably going to disagree about the Pasadena article, but I think we can all agree not to place images mid-sentence. It breaks the text in unattractive ways. Esrever (klaT) 19:09, 3 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. We seem to be having a misunderstanding over the Pasadena article. Specifically, sentences like this: "Caltech's 31 Nobel Laureates have brought 32 Nobel prizes home to Pasadena." You cite a reference (here), but I don't see where on that page the above information is actually contained. Please point me to it. Cheers! Esrever (klaT) 01:17, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You apparently missed the appropriate reference and deleted the whole thing without discussion. Sometimes images have to be placed in the middle of sentences to not break into the next category as you have done. It is a common practice. I get that I have worked on this article for months and you want to stroll in and make major changes without discussion. We may have to discuss this over lunch IN Pasadena, YOU buy! http://pr.caltech.edu/events/caltech_nobel/ I forgot to say Cheers and Happy New Year in the spirit of Wikilove! DocOfSoc (talk) 01:50, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
This would be the first article I've ever seen on WP that has images in the middle of the sentence. I don't like images bleeding between sections, either, but it's better than weird gaps in the text. Thanks for the other reference. I'll add it in, if it's not already been done. Esrever (klaT) 02:53, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It's done. Does this mean no lunch? LOL DocOfSoc (talk) 02:56, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Keep in mind that while things like image location/size, section breaks, etc. might look funny on your computer, they don't necessarily look odd on anyone else's computer. Everyone's monitor and display settings are different, so it's best to leave the formatting up to the Wikipedia system (and readers' own settings). Kafziel Complaint Department: Please take a number 03:02, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

HI Kaz! Happy New year! On a 24" monitor, wouldn't I get the most "normal" visual? And how and when does the Wikipedia system format images? You lost me on that one. You are invited to lunch too LOL! Namaste...DocOfSoc (talk) 03:12, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What the MediaWiki software actually does is render images into a "thumbnail" (mini-image of a given width) and put the image "call" into a stream of HTML output. It's actually your own browser that decides how to show it on your own personal video screen, and yes, that's different for everyone. There really is no "most normal" and certainly a 24" screen is not normal at all. Some key points are: what is the resolution of the monitor, 640x480, 1280x1024, etc.? Do you view windows maximized (full-screen) or as windows with draggable borders? And is your monitor HD-format (9:5 width/height ratio) pr "TV"-format (5:4 ratio). Bottom line, don't assume that what you see is what everyone else gets, or is "standard" in any way. I find it's often helpful to drag my window borders this way and that, just to get an idea of what other people in the world might be seeing. I haven't looked, but an image placed mid-sentence seems somewhat iffy to me. Franamax (talk) 03:49, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Fran! Happy New Year! Ty for your comprehensive explanation. My resolution is 1600x1000 and I have draggable borders and you are right that comes in handy. I got it, nothing is standard and I won't give the MAC superiority speech LOLOL. I have found many, many images in the middle of paragraphs, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't and it does make them hard to find. Good to "see" you, your sagacity is always appreciated:-) Namaste...DocOfSoc (talk) 04:08, 4 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Glenn Beck

I disagree with your method. I also may disagree with some of your edits (I haven't gone through them all) but I did want to make it clear that you going through the article with some fresh eyes is still appreciated so I hope you do not take any objections I have raised the wrong way. Thanks for at least attempting it and some of the edits have been very good.Cptnono (talk) 06:04, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

As part of "team Beck" we can agree to disagree and work it out. To which method are you referring? I have no problem with your objections except when you are being Speedy Gonzalez! LOL I can be a chamaeleon... sometimes! :-D
(talk page stalker) (Off-topic) Love the kraut! Heat it up in some good German beer and some bacon, toss a few caraway seeds in there if you like (I like) with some of the best sausage on earth (can't get 'em in America), some wicked-good grainy mustard... I miss the old country :> Doc talk 12:47, 5 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Album Cover at John Berry (singer)

Hello, what happened with the picture of the album cover at John Berry (singer) is that you used the Album Infobox template incorrectly, causing the whole article to be tagged for correction at the Albums Project. The Album Infobox has to be used accurately and completely at articles that are actually about albums, which is indeed the case at John Berry (album). I was not aware that you wanted to use the album cover simply as a photo for Berry's biography, but there is a better way do that without using the Album Infobox. I've edited that article accordingly, with the correct use of a photo plus caption. Sincerely, DOOMSDAYER520 (Talk|Contribs) 17:59, 6 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
