Let's start with some good news: Alice and the project lost the bothersome sock puppet who had been disrupting many articles we monitor, and now most of us can edit in relative peace. Congratulations, Alice, for being able to come out of semi-retirement. Benjiboi, on the other hand, has gained an anonymous IP stalker who seems to be more Catholic than the Pope and who has a hard-on for the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. We seem to have a sort of Yin and Yang thing going on here, which helps both to keep us in balance and on our toes <bright smiles all around>.

Albus Dumbledore got outed this month, and was immediately adopted by our project. The international brouhaha surrounding this disclosure reached all the way to Wikiland, and his article was briefly locked due to homophobic vandalism (as well as well meaning editors who just couldn't believe that that nice man could possibly be gay). This is a wonderful article to add to your watchlist, and will surely give you hours of reverting fun on cold winter days.

This ambitious topic will surely require many editors and a lot of research, but has the potential to add further prestige to our already prestigious project.

Francis Bacon (not the new gay one, but the old gay one ... though they're actually both dead, now that I think about it) has also aroused passions here on Wikipedia, with editors opposing his sexuality being disclosed in his biography. The always helpful Haiduc has thoughtfully provided any number of sources, but it is slow going getting his point across. Anyone want to lend a hand?

And speaking of passions, Jack Kerouac has inflamed the senses once again with editors, including administrator Irishguy, mounting a spirited defense to keep him as heterosexual as possible for Wikipedia purposes. Why? I don't know. Perhaps some of you can drop by the talk page and ask your questions there. I feel certain a stimulating debate will ensue that will be enjoyed by all.

Did you know that one of our Featured articles, Lawrence v. Texas, lost its shiny gold star? That was a shocker. It has been suggested that we turn our attention to it in an effort to restore it to its former glory. I took a peek, and it does need our help badly. For our American editors, it would seem almost a civic duty to edit it (not that I'm hinting....).

Though it was far too intellectual a debate for a mere cruise director like myself to take part in, Intersexuality was certainly a hot topic a week or two ago. The thrust of the debate was over inclusion in our project. Lots of good editors had lots of good opinions. For those too lazy to check out the discussion, we decided to leave it out for now.

Lesbian pulp fiction (a genre close to my heart, I must confess) writer Ann Bannon has decided to spice up the featured articles candidates list this month. Why not drop by and make your opinion heard? Joining her in this lofty aspiration are the articles But I'm a Cheerleader and Conversion therapy. A little birdie just whispered in my ear that our noble collaboration project was delisted from the Community Portal due to inactivity. When asked how this scandalous turn of events could have occurred, the answer I received was "we suck at stuff like that". Well. In the first place, I disagree that sucking should be considered a negative, but to each his or her own. In the second place, I have full confidence that we can and will collaborate with other projects in the future. So let's not view this as a setback (even though it is), but rather a challenge to improve (and good Lord, I sound almost Wikipedian!).

I was awake all last night trying to figure that one out.

My Proposal.

Yes you get yet another award

I almost posted this to your user page, but just as I was clicking, saw the caveat, so here you go, I would be honored if you would display this on your user page with the rest.... (just throw it on the pile of other ones, lol)

The Wikihalo Award The Wikihalo Award The Wikihalo Award I was going to give you a quick thank-you for your contribution to Reichstag Climbing, but then got sucked in to reading your other edits, so I hereby award you The Wikihalo award for your overall coolness and humor! Thank you for being YOU! - Sue Rangell 03:38, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[citation needed][reply] This award was introduced by The Neokidon 21 January 2006.

I thought about reverting this as vandalism, just because :-D

Thank you. For the illegal award and all you've done to make me laugh today. I am honoured. - Kathryn NicDhàna 05:17, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You have inspired me to create this. The illegal version of the WikiHalo:

The Outlaw Award The Outlaw Halo Award

The Outlaw Halo Award is given for whatever reason you may have, to whomever you feel like.

This award may also be given to those who Ignore All Rules in an audacious way that protects the 'pedia.

It was introduced by Kathryn NicDhàna, illegally, on March 15 2007, after Sue Rangell [citation needed] Climbed the Reichstag to present her with a Wikihalo award, illegally, without even asking anyone to vote on it.

St Patrick's Day

Thanks for your sensible comments on St Patrick's Day. More and more of us are getting worried about the alcohol-fuelled debauchery that's going on. While our political leaders fly to all corners of the globe, I'll be staying here, going to church (CofI, as it happens), and enjoying a Guinness at lunch. After that I'll probably wander into town to see the Parade. Let's hope we have a better day than last year!

All good wishes. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Bill Tegner (talkcontribs) 09:10, 15 March 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Thanks for your kind comments, Bill. Yes, I usually stay home on St. Patrick's to avoid the drunken louts. For the first time in years I'm considering going out this year, only because there's going to be some good music on (depending if we can get tickets, after procrastinating). Slán, - Kathryn NicDhàna 22:10, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, Kathryn, I'll raise my glass to you and Alison tomorrow. We're spoilt for choice in the afternoon: the races, or the parade, or planting first early potatoes. Actually I'm getting a bit of stick from an American called "IrishGuy". Possibly my abrasive style hasn't helped, but I think we've patched it up now. Bill Tegner 08:25, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

WP:UW future?

Hi Kathryn,

Sorry for the blatant spam, but you have yourself down as interested at WikiProject user warnings WP:UW. There is a discussion on going here that might be of interest to you about the future of this project. There are two strawpolls on the talk pages and the second one is about the future of the WP:UW project. Now we have the end in sight we are looking at wrapping up the project and merging it with Template messages/User talk namespace WP:UTM and creating a one stop shop for all userspace template issue. As you have yourself down as interested in this project we thought you may have some input on this issue, and would like you to visit the discussion and give any thoughts you may have on the matter. Deletes

hi Kathryn,

i just noticed that twice: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Samhain&diff=86782886&oldid=86663344 http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wheel_of_the_Year&diff=93445294&oldid=92695591 you've removed external links to essays written by Mike Nichols.

your first deletion was accompanied by this explanation: "While containing some interesting folklore, link also has inaccuracies, esp. concerning Gaelic culture and tradition."

what are the inaccuracies?

your second deletion was accompanied by this explanation: "prob. copyvio (wheel graphic on geocities site)"

so are you suggesting that the graphic on Mike's site is a copyright violation? do you have proof? and if it is, does linking to his site violate any wikipedia policies?

peace, -- Besonen 23:58, 31 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Besonen, The diffs you [initially] provided go to the same edit, so I can only respond to that one. The Mike Nichols site has a lot of ads, and seems to mostly focus on promoting his book, which is frowned upon in the WP:EL external link guidelines. IIRC, I think that graphic is from the Erica Jong book, Witches. I don't have the book at hand, so I can't be sure, but I know I've seen it published elsewhere before. Unless he got permission, yes, that would make use of the graphic on his website a copyright violation. - Kathryn NicDhàna 21:37, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I see you've changed one of the diffs in your message above.[1]In the future, if you could use edit summaries, and note any changes to your post in the discussion, it will help readers keep track of changes :-) As to Nichols's Samhain article, I'd say it has a mixture of good, verifiable info (for those who already know what sources to check) along with some speculations and a few inaccuracies. The problem is that, without any citations, the reader doesn't know which content in his essays can be sourced and which are his personal interpretations. Given that, even if there weren't the possible copyvio on the main page of his site and advertising concerns, I don't think the articles I looked at are appropriate for an encyclopedic reference. Slàn, - Kathryn NicDhàna 23:54, 1 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copyedit request

Hello, CorbieVreccan. I saw you enlisted at the WP:LoCE therefore I wanted to ask if you wouldn't mind to take a look at 2012 Summer Olympics bids (52 kb). Since it is on FAC, it had two complete sweeps by a reviewer, but another one still thinks the prose is not professional enough to support it. I've put a request on the WP:LoCE but I sense it will take a long time before it gets a writing-style review.

I'm asking other WPs to help but I would really appreciate your contribution, but it's OK if for some reason you can't. Cheers! Parutakupiu talk || contribs 04:33, 10 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi CorbieVreccan, as a WikiProject Scotland participant, please check out this this thread and consider adding the bot results page to your watchlist so we can manually update the New Articles page. There are some false results for the first batch, but I'm sure we can collectively tune the rules to improve the output.

If we get enough people watching the results page, we'll be cooking with gas as they say :)   This looks like a great helper in finding new Scotland related material. Cheers. --Cactus.man 01:14, 17 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads-up, ssepp. The Fulcanelli IP edits were made in the midst of a spamming spree,[3] for which I warned him on the talk page of the IP he used to make the edits.[4] - Kathryn NicDhàna 18:23, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding my edit to WP:UAA (thanks for asking)

I did not intend to mislead you; it was a misunderstanding. The WP:UAA system is new, so confusion will last a while until everyone figures out how it really works in practice. My comment was to clarify the basis for blocking or not blocking the user, rather than to issue a final ruling. Perhaps I should have made my intention clear by introducing the word "Comment" as is common in other discussions.

As I understand it, the reason UAA replaced WP:RFCN is that the discussions were becoming excessive, and deciding that a username violates policy is a simple matter in most cases. (If you read the relevant MFD discussions, it's more complicated.) Although I'm not an admin, I find the issue curious, and I happened to stop by when your case was active. I think it's helpful to provide administrators with additional information they might need, since you didn't clarify what about the username was offensive. In the future, if you see an unclear post on a noticeboard, you are free to clarify its intent - and again, I should have used the word "comment" in order not to confuse you. The word "administrators" in the page title is not meant to scare you away. :)

Hello

Hello Kathryn, thanks for the cleanup at the Celtic mythology topics template. I woud appreciate if you could help adding these templates to all these pages to aid readers with navigating all these articles.

It's Scottish Gaelic for "Thank You" :-) - Kathryn NicDhàna 21:34, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Would love to know how to pronounce it.... ≈ jossi ≈ (talk) 21:37, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I suck at IPA, but roughly: "TAHP-uh Layv" or "TAHP-uh Leave", depending on dialect. That's the formal/respectful or plural form, btw (like vous en francais). The informal/singular is Tapadh Leat ("TAHP-uh Let" or "TAHP-uh Laht", depending on dialect). I suppose by the time we finish working on this template we'll be at the informal level. ;-) - Kathryn NicDhàna 21:58, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of Murloc

An editor has nominated Murloc, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not"). Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Murloc and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. - Tiswas(t) 13:57, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Edit of page Druid

Hrm, I dont actually remember exactly what I wrote, though it is entirely possible that my addition was from a personal perspective possibly made clearly so by acknowledgement of that or possibly allowed to stand as being self evidently so.

In either case, I apologise if my addition broke the rules, though I would also like to suggest that might be helpful to people such as myself who are unfamiliar with the Wiki guidelines if you pasted the content that you edit in your advisory notes about its suitability.

WRT to the same page, you might like to note that the following paragraph is not substanstiable in the context of the page:

"Nevertheless, much traditional rural religious practice can still be discerned from Christian interpretations and survives in practices like Halloween observances, corn dollies and other harvest rituals, the myths of Puck, woodwoses, "lucky" and "unlucky" plants and animals and the like. Orally-transmitted material may have exaggerated deep origins in antiquity, however, and is constantly subject to influence from surrounding culture."

Practices of this type, as can be easily discovered from reading The Golden Bough by J.G Fraser, predominate globally and thus cannot be construed to be directly relevant to the practice of Druidry. Even though practices of this type may have been incorporated into the druidic tradition, the only easily available (indirect) evidence of this is in the description that Bloedduewedd was a wife made of flowers.

It also seems unreasonable to rely on Roman observations on the nature of Druidry without accompanying such observations with a footnote to indicate that Roman descriptions clearly come relatively late in the existence of the practice. Note that this is an observation on what seems to be relevant to appreciating the value of Roman description in context rather than a criticism of the content of the page with respect to its accuracy in the context of Roman made observations.

WRT to consistent allegation that druidry had as its basis the rote memorisation of triadic guidelines, it is also often overlooked that the evidence for this is derived from a period much later even than Roman made observation.

I would have annotated the page with these comments, however, I did not wish to risk breaking the wiki guidelines again and so have left it to your discretion as to whether or not they should be included. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.159.73.56 (talkcontribs)

You can refresh your memory as to what you wrote by looking at the history of the article (click "history" tab in top nav. bar) or, even easier, clicking "my contributions" at the top of the page, assuming you have a static IP. (It would be easier to track your contribs. if you registered an account, btw.) The reverted edits can be viewed here. They were reverted because they appeared to be unsourced commentary; even if it were sourced, it appears much of what you wrote was about the beliefs and traditions of some Neo-druidic traditions, whereas the Druid article is about historical druids. If you wish to discuss changes to the article, it's usually best to do so on the discussion page of the article itself, that way all the contributing editors can participate. Response

It’s not wise to allege to this Wikipedia’s article. Doing what the article says thoroughly, nearly all the information in Wikipedia must be deleted immediately. You can always doubt any source. There’s an alternative point of view on anything. Why waste your time trying to stop an attempt to say what was the real reason for this great person to die. The article about Jim’s death is nothing more than a logical conclusion from all the known facts without inventing anything new. If you read the article, which is just a combination of all the facts that are widely known and were previously published in reliable sources, and you have some questions concerning distortion of some facts, write about it and give a link to a source. Wikipedia’s slogan “verifiability, not truth” lets one still state that it’s the Sun spinning around the Earth. What I’m doing is not advertising or promotion, it’s just letting people know information (I get no money doing this). If you continue what you’re doing, then, as I doubt that everything you wrote to Wikipedia comes from encyclopedic sources, most likely I’d have to edit all your articles. Try doing something more useful in your free time. Referento Referento 06:04, 14 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copyediting help?

Heya, Kathryn, I noticed you've listed yourself as a member of LOCE, so could I ask you if you would mind copyediting Austin Nichols for me? It's up for FARC and an editor has concerns about its prose. Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 21:33, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is that a no, or a maybe? Dev920 (Have a nice day!) 10:57, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Mea Culpa. I thought I'd responded already! Sorry, I've been really busy with non-WP world (eh, what's that? ;-)). I took a look at the article and, while the prose could use a bit of improvement, it's really not that bad. The version I looked at needed more fleshing out about his career, imho. I also think the acting is more important than the skiing, which seemed a bit over-emphasized in the version I read. Anyway, I felt I needed to familiarize myself with the topic more before attempting any rewrites. The links to some of the sources I tried to check were broken, and I wound up spending some time Googling for replacement sources and additional info. If I get a chance I'll poke at it some, but I'm so busy right now I doubt I have the time to give it the attention it deserves. Maybe when things let up a bit. - Kathryn NicDhàna 15:13, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Normally I continue these little salvete's with a bland statement about "let me know if I can doing anything to help etc.". However, noticing your user page I wonder if, at the risk of creating an impertinence, you could do me a favour? I am currently largely AWOL from my regular duties on the islands because I over-ambitiously sent an article to the FAC room - Renewable energy in Scotland (nom). Here I have troubled the estimable User:Tony who, pulling writer's rank, demands better copy-editing to remove stray back-ellipses, or something like that. I have asked my chums at WP:SCOTLAND, but they all seem to be down at the wiki-boozer discussing their latest collection of stubs about footballers or some such. I know you are busy, but if you could either take a quick look at it, or suggest someone who could, I'd be very grateful. Irish articles assessments

It seems that the assessment of Irish articles has fallen off the radar but recently Flowerpotman, Sarah777 and I have been doing a little work on this as well as actually classifying articles (actually Sarah has done the most work). Anyway, you are listed as a member of the WikiProject hence this post.

 • The first thing that needs doing is to work on the WikiProject template. Actually there are two templates both of which get recorded by the assessment statistics bot that collects the ratings and creates the listings in the category Category:Ireland articles by quality. The two project templates are Irelandproj listed on the main project page and WikiProject Ireland listed on the assessment page—the first allows both quality and importance rating as well as nesting but no reviewer comments, while the second allows quality rating and comments but the importance does not seem to work and comments are not included. This needs to be fixed, so we use one that works fully—can you help?
 • The next thing is to decide if we just let editors assess as they wish or to create some criteria or guidelines for rating the quality and importance of the Irish articles. Personally I am in favour of some guidelines—some will be easy to decide while others are a little more complex. What do you think?
 • Some projects make lists of articles for assessment while other go after groups of articles by category. What should we do? A mixture of both by using a "To do list"?
 • As of the last assessment statistics bot run on Sunday, August 20, only 1462 articles have been tagged, of which 1156 have been assessed for quality but 660 of these have no importance value.
 • Besides these 1462 there must be hundreds more untagged articles that should be tagged when we get the template issue mentioned above fixed.

We are not bad in our assessments but some projects have all their articles assessed while others are lacking more than we are. We can really use a few active editors to bring assessments to the fore. Please reply on the assessment talk page as to what you can do. Please help out. ww2censor 17:18, 21 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ralph Morse (actor)

Hi Kathryn

Thank you for your comments on my entry on the above. I apologise if I have not followed the appropriate protocol in compiling this information. Although I have used Wikipedia myself for research and found it most useful, I am new to editing and would therefore appreciate your advice on how to improve this entry.

I shall make no further amendments to Dr Morse's acting page until I have received further advice from you.

My thanks —The preceding unsigned comment was added by George Abaris (talkcontribs) 20:27, August 21, 2007 (UTC).

Hi George, Actually, it would be better if you continued to work on the article, *after* reading the links I gave you about Wikipedia's Manual of Style, especially the standards about citing sources. Right now you have what is obviously Original Research in the article. I think the subject is notable enough for a WP article, but you'll need to take care of these problems with it if you want much of the info to remain. Thanks. - Kathryn NicDhàna 17:39, 27 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Kathryn. Thank you for the help; I am away for a couple of weeks, but will revisit the whole article on my return. Best wishes George —Preceding unsigned comment added by George Abaris (talkcontribs) 06:44, August 28, 2007 (UTC)

Irish people photos

Hi Kathryn. I think it would be great to see them back. When I was at it I tried to include as many interesting and up-to-date ones as I could find, and present them in a visually appealling manner. Karohatch

Hey Kathryn, I reverted the page Gaels back to the last version that didn't have Karohatch's nonsense in it. Of course there's probably a lot of even older changes he's made that are still there, but looking through it I didn't see one edit of his that actually improved the article, and more often than not, they made an even bigger mess. This is besides the link spamming he's been doing for months now. I'll go back through later and see if I removed anything good, but most edits during the last month were either his, people reverting him, and vandalism. Just giving you a heads up, I saw you've been monitering the page.--Cúchullain t/c 21:41, 9 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tapadh Leibh for your help with this! Seriously, if he doesn't start making positive contributions, he's going to need a good, long, time out. I am really fed up with his chronic, low-level but persistent harm to articles and waste of editors' time. Neo-druidism article

Hey Kathyrn, you might want to take the broom to the Neo-druidism article. The article itself doesn't do a very good job of showing that the movement is a completely modern movement without historical ties. This is, of course, in no small part due to the massive amount of misinformation floating around all thins Celtic but this one is particularly glaring. I've refitted the introduction and will move more information from the Druid article itself there. Your help would be appreciated. :bloodofox: 10:46, 14 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Our mutual friend

Is at it again. I've blocked him for 48 hours. If he repeats the behavior when he comes back, I'm just going to block him indefinetly. I've seen nothing but disruption for him, and it's getting increasingly hard to assume good faith about his actions (or at least, to assume that he'll refrain from disruptive edits if he's allowed to continue). Please let me know if you catch him again before I do, I'm not at all optimistic that he'll get the message.--Cúchullain t/c 06:35, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The block is well-deserved. Thank you. So many of us have tried to explain WP101 to him, and he doesn't even give the courtesy of a response, let alone alter his inappropriate behaviour. His actions have been uniformly disruptive. Without fail even his non-spamming efforts leave behind messes others have to clean up. He's been given every chance to learn to do better and has shown absolutely no interest in doing so. You have my support in an indefinite block if it comes to that. - Kathryn NicDhàna 21:11, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am my own worst vandal...

Thanks for not reverting my userpage. I'm just doing some redecorating and shuffling things around. If I'm half as smart as I'd like to think I am, my user page will become more useful. It's been rather more an overwhelming praise song to me, me, me. Perhaps I'm growing out of being overly self-conscious about my participation on WP. Good. British/Irish articles

In otherwords but out, is what you're saying. Sony warned me about the political atmosphere around those articles. Myself and Hughie have made peace. Anyways, I'll cut down my participation on those articles. I've done 'nothing' wrong, on the 'four' articles I'm involved in (no editing warring, personal attacks, trolling). I was just trying to help. GoodDay 20:56, 4 October 2007 (UTC) OK, I'll exit. The more editors involved in those discussions, causes more bickering then solutions. If having 'one less' editor involved will help things? Then I volunteer to remove myself. GoodDay 21:21, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not saying that you shouldn't work on the articles. I'm just suggesting that, as these discussions can get very contentious, you be extra careful to mind WP:NPOV, and realize that joking about some of this stuff won't be perceived as jokes by everyone in the conversation. Reading through the Ireland discussion, it was clear to me that many people had no idea if you were joking or not, and rather than lighten the mood, it was increasing tension and combativeness on the part of some participants. Some of what was going on seemed to me to be in violation of WP:POINT, even if it was intended as a joke. We always need editors that can handle contentious topics with grace and NPOV. Part of that process is reading up on the history of the talk page discussions, and knowing that, no matter how careful we are, someone is likely to take offense, for whatever reason. It's something we all need to watch out for. - Kathryn NicDhàna 21:45, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Quite true, Sony warned me about the political atmosphere of those discussions earlier (I should've listened). Also I had a difficult time convincing Hughie that I wasn't a troll (not sure I've completely convinced him). I must admit, I do feel bruised by the experience; plus there's nothing more I could add to those discussions. I'll be more careful, though I think my credibility there, might be beyond saving. GoodDay 22:28, 4 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Curious (though not getting involved), what's happening at Tharky's page? GoodDay 20:18, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it looks to me like people are just blowing off steam. Better on a user talk page, and in such an obviously ridiculous way, than on the article talk. Hell, if people can bond over laughter and make fun of ourselves, it might actually help things in the long run. - Kathryn NicDhàna 23:14, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Admin nomination

Dropping you a line regarding your comment. First, a big thank you for the feedback, seriously it's always helpful, believe me. I just wanted to let you know that while I may not have been vigorously fighting vandalism through the formal channel of WP:AIV, I am familiar with the space - guess I just haven't been that bold enough to use it. My anti-vandal tactics are more subtle I suppose mostly in the form of intermittent reversions that get lost in my numerous edits. Trying to get approved for the antivandal software too. Anyway, this is not meant to sway your decision, just remarking. Really, thanks again for the input, cheers! Wisdom89 01:56, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Reporting to WP:AIV is important in a number of ways. Once a vandal has been warned enough to be reported, it's how you get them blocked. Then, by watching how blocking admins respond to your reports, you'll get a sense for what length of blocks are appropriate in different cases. Whether your reports result in block or not, you'll also get a sense of which users deserve blocks and which deserve to be given another chance before a block. All of this is vital stuff to learn if you're going to be trusted with the mop. Good luck! - Kathryn NicDhàna 02:23, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
P.S. - Also, while reverting vandalism is good, it is also important to put a warning on the vandal's talk page. If they haven't been warned, they may not know what they're doing is wrong, and they may continue to vandalize for longer before being given sufficient warnings to earn them a block. While reverting is helpful, it can be frustrating to the rest of us to see that the vandal could have been stopped sooner if proper warnings were given. - Kathryn NicDhàna 02:56, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

De-GeoffMGleadallification has been an ongoing priority of mine for at least a year and a half, though I haven't been able to contribute to Wikipedia as much as I'd like lately. The Celtic religion articles have also suffered from a much earlier rot introduced by User:TUF-KAT, who bulk-imported a lot of nonsense copied from some online Neopagan list of gods. (My impression is that TUF-KAT, like Wikipedia itself, has evolved a lot, and that s/he has now thoroughly reformed – in fact s/he's now an admin.) As for GeoffMGleadall's work, some of it can be sourced and presented in a respectable fashion. I've always opted for that M.O. if possible, which is why it's been slow going. Anyhow, thanks again for your kind words! Solidarity, Q·L·1968 19:47, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've just noticed with joy that GeoffMGleadall is back on Wikipedia, and that his recent contributions have much more substance and attentiveness to sourcing. (singing:) You've got to admit, it's getting better; getting better, all the time. Q·L·1968 19:52, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Copyedit request

I see that you are busy at present, but here is a request with a relaxed timescale. At some point I plan to put St Kilda up for peer review and FA. If you have a moment (or two - it's a bit on the long side) I'd appreciate it if you could take a look at it. Slainte. Ben MacDui (Talk) 16:29, 19 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I poked at it a little bit, will see what else I can get to :-) - Kathryn NicDhàna 03:51, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

New Userbox

This user is respected by Tinkleheimer and has done great work in Tinkleheimer's eyes.

I made my very first userbox and am passing it out. I won't be terribly offended if don't put it on your page. And if you want to make one for yourself, just create a subpage under your user page and just copy/paste the code from User:Tinkleheimer/RespectedByTinkleheimer. Thanks!!Trevor "Tinkleheimer" Haworth 03:10, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why thank you! - Kathryn NicDhàna 03:51, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you  :-)

My RFA
Thanks for your support in my recent request for adminship, which was successful. I'll do my best to justify the confidence you've placed in me! Dppowell 23:15, 31 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

my username

Yeah, I know, I liked it too. In short, though, I got tired of people misconstruing the reference and thinking I was a communist / classist / fan of violence / Hispanic ... none of which I am. I'd had vandalism to my userpages a couple of times, plus an oppose at my (unsuccessful) RfA with the rationale "Too few edits. Objectionable username." Figured it wasn't really worth the trouble anymore.

Ah well. I can take comfort in the fact that, for anyone who catches this reference, there are some subversive overtones.

Thanks for the vote of confidence! - Revolving Bugbear (formerly Che Nuevara) 11:48, 4 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Samhain

Hey Kathryn, the etymology looks good to me. I don't care for inline citations, but they could be changed to footnotes in a trice. I doubt Stokes' idea about *samani- can be exact, because how does he turn the vowel into o for SAMON[IOS]? But it's sourced, so no worries. The f thing looks okay, and I agree, it's a spurious folk etymology. The only thing that looks fishy to me is the confidence with which the months of the Coligny calendar are identified as April/May or whatever – there are at least three different theories kicking around for when the Coligny year began. Q·L·1968 10:29, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, Dab indicated a couple source, but didn't bother to put it in the format already established in the article, and one is rather vague. The confidence/tone about a particular theory needs to be addressed. In the cases where the theory is only one of a number of reasonable theories, we do need to indicate that. - Kathryn NicDhàna 21:25, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wallowing in my RfA: This time it's personal...
My sincere thanks for your support in my request for adminship, which ended with 51 supports, 0 opposes, and 0 neutral. Doubtless it was an error to put one of the government-bred race of pigmen in any position of authority, but I hope your confidence in me proves justified. Even a man pure of heart and who says his prayers at night can become a were-boar when the moon is full and sweet. Fortunately, I'm neither a were-pig nor pure of heart so this doesn't appear to be an imminent danger to Wikipedia for the moment. Fortunate as well because were-pig hooves are hell on keyboards and none too dexterous with computer mice. If ever I should offend, act uncivil, misstep, overstep, annoy, violate policy, or attempt to topple the fascist leadership of Wikipedia, please let me know so I can improve my behaviour and/or my aim. I am not an animal; I am an admin. And, of course, if there is any way in which I can help you on Wikipedia, please do not hesitate to ask me. Despite my japes, I am indeed dedicated to protecting and serving Wikipedia to the best of my foppish and impudent abilities. I will strive to be an admirable admin, shiny and cool, reasonable and beatific. Pigmanwhat?/trail 05:25, 8 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Post Scriptum: I believe my collaged graphic at left, which incorporates the WP globe and mop image, falls under the rubric of parody for my purposes here. Or is it satire? Regardless, it's a legitimate and legally protected First Amendment usage under US law. Complaints and allegations that this is an improper "fair use" image will be entertained on my talk page, probably with fruit juice, finger food and exotic coffees.
