m Signing comment by Indian born - "→‎Rajanikant Kannada transliteration: new section"
Line 133: Line 133:

Dear All, Rajnikant was born in Bangalore and acted in Kannada plays/dramas/stageshows before moving to Tamil Cinema. He knew only Kannada and Marathi(Mother tongue) and he learnt tamil after moving to chennai. He is no doubt belongs to Kannadigas as well tamil. Hope this clears question of kannada transliteration in the literature. Rajnikant may be the name given by tamil director but the person roots are from Karnataka hence transliteration in kannada will not impair the reputation of the person. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Indian born (talk • contribs) 19:14, 9 July 2011 (UTC)

:I'm afraid Rajini's repute was gained in the Tamil film industry, and that is the primary reason why his name is not given in any other language. (In fact, his roots are in Maharashtra, not Bangalore). Bishop Cottons

Hi,

Is there a particular reason you removed the school song and the house songs from the Bishop Cotton's article? What does rm songs mean?

Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by KaranJoseph (talkcontribs) 22:28, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) Mike would have removed (rm stands for removed) the school song and house songs as they are not encyclopedic. Please go through WP:NOT for more. Abhishek Talk 04:00, 2 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

GOCE drive invitation

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors

The latest GOCE backlog elimination drive is under way! It began on 1 July and so far 18 people have signed up to help us reduce the number of articles in need of copyediting.

This drive will give a 50% bonus for articles edited from the GOCE requests page. Although we have cleared the backlog of 2009 articles there are still 3,935 articles needing copyediting and any help, no matter how small, would be appreciated.

We are appealing to all GOCE members, and any other editors who wish to participate, to come and help us reduce the number of articles needing copyediting, as well as the backlog of requests. If you have not signed up yet, why not take a look at the current signatories and help us by adding your name and copyediting a few articles. Barnstars will be given to anyone who edits more than 4,000 words, with special awards for the top 5 in the categories: "Number of articles", "Number of words", and "Number of articles of over 5,000 words".

Shriya Saran assessment

What more do you think it needs to reach GA? We have found in the past that there was a lot more information, but all the references were tagged as unreliable. Then by the time all of those sources and their info was removed, it was said the article was not comprehensive enough. Seems like a no win situation. Hard to get GA quality material on minor stars. And yet I see a GA like Ranveer Singh, who is a very minor star, but he is from Hindi films, where sources are "more reliable". What do you think? BollyJeff || talk 14:02, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with you. In fact, I think its quite good for GA, with some MOS improvements (like section headers). Also, the transliteration should be in Tamil, because she is basically a Tamil actor. Lynch7 14:10, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You could ask for a Peer review, where you'll get detailed comments (I can't give out GAs as part of assessment). Lynch7 14:12, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
She was born in the Hindi region of India, and her website says that her mother language is Hindi, so I suppose that matters more than what films she acts in. I worked on this article for a while to get it to GA, but it failed for the reasons above. You can look at the notes on the review here for the details. I have been wanting to improve it and get it promoted, but its hard to find good sources. Your additional comments would be appreciated. BollyJeff || talk 14:53, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
There was a similar discussion at Deepika Padukone, it doesn't really matter where she was born, its where she is most noted that is important. Anyway, I'll try and give detailed input, I'll probably even try and improve the article; probably tomorrow (IST). Lynch7 14:58, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Then you get into "well she's done as many Telugu films as Tamil...", blah, blah. I personally hate those scripts for the division that they cause, and would like to see them banned from the en.wiki. Anyway, I look forward to what you can do, thanks. BollyJeff || talk 15:03, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That's true actually, such debates can go on. Forget that, we can discuss that at a later date. Lynch7 15:05, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

S. P. Balasubrahmanyam

Hi, thanks for re-assessing the article. But I don't think it deserves a "B" Class. A lot of work needs to be done and I am planning to spend some time on that article. --Commander (Ping Me) 16:33, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I kinda agree. But I gave B class because it was pretty comprehensive, and has no serious problems. Though yes, sections have to be expanded. For a popular singer like SPB, it has a lot of potential. Lynch7 16:48, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't mind can you re-assess Mani Ratnam. I believe the article is currently in a good shape. --Commander (Ping Me) 16:59, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. I'm inclined to give a C class. Large paragraphs are unsourced. Lynch7 17:05, 6 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ya, you're right. Will improve that article too. Thanks again. --Commander (Ping Me) 05:36, 7 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

With Regards.. Utkarsh Pandey — Preceding unsigned comment added by Utkarsh1992 (talkcontribs) 17:00, 8 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Utkarsh, thank you for replying. I understand that you want to list your university in the rankings page, but if you will notice, only colleges that were ranked are listed on that page. It is possible that your university did not participate. It does not appear in those rankings, hence, it does not feature there in the list.

PPI Assessment research gets some attention!

Hi MikeLynch, I wanted to let you know that FactCompany.com reported the Public Policy Initiative research. They noticed all of our hard work on article quality assessment! And, I presented some preliminary results of the Public Policy Initiative today at the Wikipedia in Higher Education Summit; it was very well received by academics. They were impressed with the rigor of the research and that is due in part to your efforts. So yet again, Thank YOU! I will keep you posted as I continue to get the results out there. Also, if you would like a token of appreciation (aka Wikipedia swag) send me an email (aroth@wikimedia.org) with your address and I will get a package out to you later this month. all the best, ARoth (Public Policy Initiative) (talk) 02:32, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
