Revision as of 01:24, 14 April 2010

Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

    Current requests for protection

    Edd Byrnes (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection ongoing re-addition of unsourced information onto a WP:BLP article by several IP editors. Most recently, User talk:68.91.148.188, User talk:68.92.232.84, User talk:68.90.157.30, User talk:68.94.145.4. Have left {{uw-biog1}} and {{uw-biog2}} on talk pages along with requests for WP:CITE in the edit summary during reverts. From Talk:Edd Byrnes, this has been ongoing since February 2010 and recently spiked again. — MrDolomite • Talk 01:24, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

House of Kabužić (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary semi-protection IP socking/vandalism. Excessive vandalism by highly disruptive User:Ragusino (banned), attempted WP:OUTING in the edit summaries. Recommend long term or indefinite semi-protection if possible. This user has been editing this way there for months on end and will not stop. It is imho necessary to deter the indeffed user from editing the article (he usually just waits for the shorter-lasting semi-protection to end). The article has very little or no traffic, (constructive) contributions by IPs are extremely rare. --DIREKTOR (TALK) 21:27, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a week. It doesn't seem to have happened much, and the page hasn't been protected before that I can see. Please ask again if the problem continues. SlimVirgin talk contribs 21:41, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Current requests for unprotection

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

My Happy Ending (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

    Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Edit War between IP 193.90.160.134 (sockpuppet - AndersWaglen) and various other users. 3RR has been passed. ~ [ Scott M. Howard ]:[ Talk ] ~ 20:11, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Declined for now, because the IP has been blocked. Do you have evidence that the IP was AndersWaglen? SlimVirgin talk contribs 21:14, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The only evidence I have is that exact edits made by the IP are being made by the username directly following a "final warning". It's not concrete, but it's very possible. ~ [ Scott M. Howard ]:[ Talk ] ~ 00:36, 14 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Pope Benedict XVI (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary full protection dispute, Edit warring by Jeannedeba to include BLP violations. Peter Ian Staker (talk) 17:29, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Note. User:Peter Ian Staker is a plain vandal who is gaming the system and making disruptive edits to the article. There are no BLP violations, I'm merely restoring the text that has been stable for at least four years and that is well sourced (some of the sources were moved to a sub-article Early_life_of_Pope_Benedict_XVI). I suggest restore the stable version and protect it. Jeannedeba (talk) 17:42, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Complete bollocks; I'm being attacked for insisting (literally) that we source sentences in a BLP and have the sentences literally say what a source says. It's a pure BLP-viofest edit war. please lock it out. Peter Ian Staker (talk) 17:49, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Fully protected for three days. I protected on the version that was on the page at the time. If there are potential BLP violations in that version, please point them out. SlimVirgin talk contribs 21:18, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

    Slut (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Temporary full protection vandalism, Can this be protected again? When I look on the talk page, I agree that this gets vandalized constantly. . JasonHockeyGuy (talk) 16:15, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Note: You sure you got the right article? It is already semi-protected, and editing to the article as well as the talk page is quite light. --RegentsPark (talk) 17:20, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well.. I guess the lock was missing, Didnt bother to check to see if its protected otherwise. Someone already correct it to reflect this JasonHockeyGuy (talk) 19:36, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Already protected. by another admin. SlimVirgin talk contribs 21:19, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

MPs elected in the United Kingdom general election, 2010 (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

Unprotect. Currently semi-protected. The rationale provided was "no need to edit this, repeated vandalism". The "repeated vandalism" was a single entry by a single IP address, and it appears that there is a need to edit it, as it is currently not remotely fit for its intended purpose. 81.111.114.131 (talk) 13:52, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not unprotected Per the directions above, please contact the protecting admin prior to posting here. caknuck ° needs to be running more often 21:02, 12 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
That's not compulsory, and neither is it a reason for outright declining the request. 81.111.114.131 (talk) 12:33, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 3 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected.. This is a long-term pattern, and may require indef SP. Horologium (talk) 16:02, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection vandalism, Persistent, long term pattern of vandalism. Immunize (talk) (talk) 14:23, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected indefinitely. This is a long-term vandalism magnet, probably because of the topic. Shorter semi-protection episodes have not stopped the vandalism. Horologium (talk) 16:07, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you are correct, indefinite semi-protection is probably warranted, given the subject and the long-term history of vandalism. The only reason why I requested temporary protection only is because there had not been an extreme surge of recent vandalism. Immunize (talk) (talk) 17:51, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protection:IP vandalism is about 20-25% of all edits (roughly counted among the last 200 edits) and the last IP edit that was not reverted dates back to mid January. Marsupilami04 (talk) 12:08, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Whilst IP edits are generally unproductive on this article, the volume is still pretty low, one or two a day, then nothing for a few days, then another little splurge, all of which are reverted pretty quickly. GedUK  13:19, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Although I can see your argument that the volume is not extremely high, it is a real pain to look into article history when nearly half of the edits (vandalism+reverts) are unproductive. But of course I can't do anything about it when you think that's not relevant. (-: Marsupilami04 (talk) 14:42, 13 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
