Due for publication: Error: first parameter cannot be parsed as a date or time.! Deadline this week is 3:00 UTC, Monday Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Issue/Next. Once all tasks are complete, the editor-in-chief (or nominated deputy) should complete the publication process.
Notices for contributors this week
Well done everyone. We made Monday UTC publication again (okay, my finger slipped, but we were one minute out either way) in difficult circumstances. Regulars will want to read some thoughts I have posted to WT:SIGN, including the target of 10pm UTC for future weeks. - Jarry1250 [Weasel? Discuss.] 18:28, 2 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Everyone interested in Signpost matters is invited to join
#wikisignpost irc • web
- Check http://identi.ca/wikisignpost and the suggestions page for possible news items to cover in the upcoming issue (especially for the "News and notes", "In the news" and "Technology Report" sections), and the Signpost resources page for further sources and other information about each regular section.
- Possible standard weekly schedule?
- Tuesday–Thursday: start. Start all pages that are to be included in the next edition.
- Saturday–Sunday: mature versions. Aim to have reasonably mature drafts of all pages for comments by the Managing Editor, fellow journalists, and other interested users. Signpost editors recommend any structural changes, reductions in length, expansions in scope, necessary coordination between pages, postponement to subsequent issue. Copy-editors go through the drafts.
- Late Sunday to early Monday: trouble-shooting. Fresh stories added to ITN and NAN by the "Next issue deadline" (only if sufficiently topical and important).
- Monday: last-minute tweaks and copy-edits; publication.
- Where there may be a perceived conflict of interest in a Signpost writer's contributions, the matter should be raised in the "Article status" table below and a review by disinterested parties requested.
- All editors please note: ellipsis points within quotations need to be ... spaced on both sides. ... And when they come after a full point, do it thus.

- Page looks like it will be quite long. Query the section on The Bugle—soon we'll have every WikiProject wanting coverage of their newsletters. Better as a note in our "Wikiproject report" page? Tony (talk) 02:41, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Not sure what you mean. This is a chapter report, not a WikiProject newsletter, so it would be weird in the WikiProject report?. And I was merely pointing out its existence, there is no need to cover it extensively in the Signpost :-). Last time was something along the lines of "Wikimedia France report: The French Wikimedia chapter has published an English-language report for the first five months of 2011.", plus if necessary "Among other activites already covered in the Signpost, are <insert here one or two really significant news of interest for the general reader>". Not doing it myself per COI concerns, as the main author of said report. Jean-Fred (talk) 15:01, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- I think Tony was talking about the section titled "The Bugle: Issue LXV published", not about coverage of the WM FR report. Regards, HaeB (talk) 17:12, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Ah yes, that makes more sense (got confused by the unclear indentation). Thanks for the clarification :-). Jean-Fred (talk) 20:33, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- It's still there, with a weird thematic twist: the heading is about The Bugle, but it morphs into a statement about RfAs. Huh?

According to Jarry, everything is covered now, just a little imbalanced in term of space. Regards, HaeB (talk) 23:46, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- I've copy-edited and shortened the fat para. Tony (talk) 01:38, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Regular responsibilities
Signpost journalists can claim responsibility for regular features, and continue writing their beat for as long as they wish. If you would like to be a regular writer for The Signpost, add your name to the appropriate task. If you'd be willing to cover a story that is usually covered by another editor, or are willing to cover it sporadically when the normal writer can't, add your name to the Backup list so you can be contacted when the need arises – the more the merrier. If a beat is not assigned to anyone and no draft for the next issue is listed above, anyone should feel free to write it that week.
