Notices for contributors this week

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this week's issue! After last week's delay, we made Monday UTC again, despite carrying two extra sections! Regards, HaeB (talk) 00:31, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Everyone interested in Signpost matters is invited to join #wikisignpost irc • web
  • Check http://identi.ca/wikisignpost and the suggestions page for possible news items to cover in the upcoming issue (especially for the "News and notes", "In the news" and "Technology Report" sections), and the Signpost resources page for further sources and other information about each regular section.
  • Possible standard weekly schedule?
  • Tuesday–Thursday: start. Start all pages that are to be included in the next edition. NAN and INN stories/links listed below.:
  • Saturday–Sunday: mature versions. Aim to have reasonably mature drafts of all pages for comments by the Managing Editor, fellow journalists, and other interested users. Signpost editors recommend any structural changes, reductions in length, expansions in scope, necessary coordination between pages, postponement to subsequent issue. Copy-editors go through the drafts.
  • Late Sunday to early Monday: trouble-shooting. Fresh stories added to INN and NAN by the "Next issue deadline" (only if sufficiently topical and important).
  • Monday: last-minute tweaks and copy-edits; publication.
  • Where there may be a perceived conflict of interest in a Signpost writer's contributions, the matter should be raised in the "Article status" table below and a review by disinterested parties requested.

Because of exams, I'm going to struggle to get any major content work done on this issue, and/or even *read* the next issue. Sorry :( Packed timetable. Any volunteers to take this over? If I don't here I shall try pinging TheDJ, who (I think) covered it last time. - Jarry1250 [Weasel? Discuss.] 20:37, 7 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Might be worth having a look at User:MarkAHershberger/Weekly reports/2011-06-13 to see if it contains additional items to cover. Regards, HaeB (talk) 17:26, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Can't see anything usable, but I'll keep an eye on it for future weeks. - Jarry1250 [Weasel? Discuss.] 19:38, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

FAC reviewers needed!

In progress

It seemed like a no-brainer to write something about this. Feel free to tweak and expand. --Cryptic C62 · Talk 02:59, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is SandyGeorgia aware of this article? She usually likes to check these sorts of things. - Jarry1250 [Weasel? Discuss.] 11:33, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is this going ahead? Better next week, I think, because it needs development, and review invited at WT:FAC. Tony (talk) 14:53, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If it is meant as a simple call for volunteers, the WikiProject report's sidebar might be a better place for it (or it could included as part of a story on a newsworthy topic, such as the call for reviewers in last week's "News and notes"). If it is meant as a full story, some more report-like background might be useful. Compare several earlier Signpost stories about content review: "Reviewers achieving excellence", "Content reviewers crucial to setting standards", "A guide to the Good Article Review Process".
The endorsement of any particular FAC participant is not mandatory, and I don't suggest that the story must go through the rather bureaucratic review process of WP:FCDW (which may have contributed to this worthy project's lamentable demise). But I agree it would be a good idea to solicit feedback from other users experienced in the FAC process. Cf. this feedback about a similar story in 2009 (was it published back then?). Regards, HaeB (talk) 15:35, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Per HaeB. Could I suggest that a few "interview style" quoted fragments from reviewers would make all the difference. And perhaps a screenshot of an example of part of a review page? Tony (talk) 15:39, 13 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Regular responsibilities

Signpost journalists can claim responsibility for regular features, and continue writing their beat for as long as they wish. If you would like to be a regular writer for The Signpost, add your name to the appropriate task. If you'd be willing to cover a story that is usually covered by another editor, or are willing to cover it sporadically when the normal writer can't, add your name to the Backup list so you can be contacted when the need arises – the more the merrier. If a beat is not assigned to anyone and no draft for the next issue is listed above, anyone should feel free to write it that week.
