Hello. Could editors with a good knowledge of Iraqi affairs please have a look at Jamal Al-Karboli? It started out as a self-promotional WP:AUTOBIO, but the man appears to be quite notable, so the article is certainly worth improving. I can't read Arabic without an online translator, and can only find passing mentions of him in WP:Reliable sources in English, but I would imagine there's a lot about him in the Iraqi press. All help most welcome. Thanks, Gurt Posh (talk) 11:01, 19 June 2011 (UTC)

Hey all. I'm asking users from this WikiProject and other WikiProjects to weigh in at the talk page for a question about the War on Terrorism page: specifically at this section. Currently, the page says the war ran from "October 7, 2001 - January 20, 2009", where it ends because the Obama administration has discontinued use of the term in favor of the "Overseas Contingency Operation". However, Overseas Contingency Operation currently redirects back to War on Terrorism. The way I see it, we need to either a) create a new Overseas Contingency Operation page that encompasses everything that has gone on since 1/20/09 with the Obama administration and the war on terror, or b) Incorporate toe OCO stuff into the existing War on Terrorism page, in which case the date would be "October 7, 2001 - present". I personally can see merit to both ideas, but I'm not the expert, so I'm seeking input from people more qualified than me to see if we can develop a consensus. I'm hoping we can War on Terrorism page: keep the discussion here so the discussion doesn't split into multiple discussions on multiple WikiProject talk pages. Thanks all! — Hunter Kahn 16:46, 12 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WP 1.0 bot announcement

This message is being sent to each WikiProject that participates in the WP 1.0 assessment system. On Saturday, January 23, 2010, the WP 1.0 bot will be upgraded. Your project does not need to take any action, but the appearance of your project's summary table will change. The upgrade will make many new, optional features available to all WikiProjects. Additional information is available at the WP 1.0 project homepage. — Carl (CBM · talk) 03:28, 22 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unreferenced living people articles bot

User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects provides a list, updated daily, of unreferenced living people articles (BLPs) related to your project. There has been a lot of discussion recently about deleting these unreferenced articles, so it is important that these articles are referenced.

The unreferenced articles related to your project can be found at >>>Wikipedia:WikiProject Iraq/Unreferenced BLPs<<<

If you do not want this wikiproject to participate, please add your project name to this list.

Thank you.

Update: Wikipedia:WikiProject Iraq/Unreferenced BLPs has been created. This list, which is updated by User:DASHBot/Wikiprojects daily, will allow your wikiproject to quickly identify unreferenced living person articles.
There maybe no or few articles on this new Unreferenced BLPs page. To increase the overall number of articles in your project with another bot, you can sign up for User:Xenobot_Mk_V#Instructions.
If you have any questions or concerns, visit User talk:DASHBot/Wikiprojects. Okip 00:44, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

afd notification

I have nominated the article July 12, 2007 Baghdad airstrike, which is within the scope of this project, for deletion. All interested editors are invited to comment at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/July 12, 2007 Baghdad airstrike. TomStar81 (Talk) 18:53, 10 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Help request

Hi folks, you could help us at WP:TOL. We have no photo of the Mesopotamian Crow, and I have seen some on the Web and they look beautiful (by crow standards). Their plumage is really singular, and it would make a very valuable addition to several articles. They're the local birds that look like a "clean" Commons:Category:Corvus cornix, and they are almost endemic to Iraq.

So, if any of you ppl has a chance of taking a photo of one, we'd be very grateful.

(Also, if anyone has a chance to photograph an Oriental Darter in Iray, do so. Any proof of its existence is valuable in general, and it might yield a honorable mention in a scientific study..)

Thanks! Dysmorodrepanis (talk) 21:58, 21 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Added articles on Yazidi and Assyrian militias; any other minority militias to add?

I was working on some articles about militias and "self-denfence forces" of religious minority groups in various countries, and ran across a couple interesting ones in Iraq:

I've added both of these to the template "Armed Iraqi Groups in the Iraq War and Civil War", down in the bottom right corner:

Are there any other minority militias that should also be added? I already checked on the Sabean/Mandaean sect, but they're evidently pacifists. Hope folks find these additions interesting, and that maybe we can drum up a few others. MatthewVanitas (talk) 08:06, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Clean up Category:Populated places in Iraq

Hi there, I cleaned up Category:Populated places in Iraq and moved all places to the appropriate Category:Populated places in XXX Governorate. I couldn't locate the few that remain. Could someone else have a look at that? Thnx -- Zoeperkoe (talk) 19:33, 30 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Iraq articles have been selected for the Wikipedia 0.8 release

Version 0.8 is a collection of Wikipedia articles selected by the Wikipedia 1.0 team for offline release on USB key, DVD and mobile phone. Articles were selected based on their assessed importance and quality, then article versions (revisionIDs) were chosen for trustworthiness (freedom from vandalism) using an adaptation of the WikiTrust algorithm.

We would like to ask you to review the Iraq articles and revisionIDs we have chosen. Selected articles are marked with a diamond symbol (♦) to the right of each article, and this symbol links to the selected version of each article. If you believe we have included or excluded articles inappropriately, please contact us at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8 with the details. You may wish to look at your WikiProject's articles with cleanup tags and try to improve any that need work; if you do, please give us the new revisionID at Wikipedia talk:Version 0.8. We would like to complete this consultation period by midnight UTC on Monday, October 11th.

We have greatly streamlined the process since the Version 0.7 release, so we aim to have the collection ready for distribution by the end of October, 2010. As a result, we are planning to distribute the collection much more widely, while continuing to work with groups such as One Laptop per Child and Wikipedia for Schools to extend the reach of Wikipedia worldwide. Please help us, with your WikiProject's feedback!

De-Ba`athification Article

Hello all. I'm working with Wikipedia's Public Policy Initiative and working on an article about the US De-Ba`athification policy, which I think ought to be linked to both the Ba`ath Party article and the Iraq/Iraq War articles. I am open to help and suggestions. Amfarr21 (talk) 16:58, 1 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject cleanup listing

I have created together with Smallman12q a toolserver tool that shows a weekly-updated list of cleanup categories for WikiProjects, that can be used as a replacement for WolterBot and this WikiProject is among those that are already included (because it is a member of Category:WolterBot cleanup listing subscriptions). See the tool's wiki page, this project's listing in one big table or by categories and the index of WikiProjects. Svick (talk) 20:25, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Article: 17 August 2010 Baghdad bombings

Would like to see if anyone in WikiProject Iraq can assess this since WikiProject Terrorism refuses to touch it. But it has been assessed by someone. I totally forgot about this article and stumbled upon again today. Feedback would be appreciated. Adamdaley (talk) 07:08, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Muhammed Ibrahim al-Juraissey has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Does not appear to be notable.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Pburka (talk) 03:59, 1 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
