Category[edit]

This seems to fit, but in case I'm wrong remember it's important to be reasonable and civil when using Category:Anti-Islam sentiment or any such category.--T. Anthony (talk) 20:02, 11 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

absolutely not. That is pure POV. The opposition is not discriminatory. Yahel Guhan 05:57, 15 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image[edit]

The image is Mangera's, and he is no longer associated with the project. There neither a valid claim of fair use nor a valid reason for that image to be here. -- Avi (talk) 18:11, 16 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

GA on hold[edit]

  • Newspapers in refs (eg. The Daily Telegraph) need to be in italics
    •  Done
  • "as a plan for a “mega-mosque.”" - why bold?
    • Because it is the most common reference to the project in the press. -- Avi (talk) 16:05, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • "The Daily Telegraph reported that it was expected" - again, needs italics?
    •  Done
  • "did not choose Mangera's design for the final plan, deciding on a scaled-down structure.[11] Instead, the mosque's trustees appointed the firm of Allies and Morrison to design the mosque." - this gets confused half way through about who was rejected and who was accepted.
    •  Done
  • "Concerns have also been raised" - "also" not necessary
    •  Done
  • Tablighi Jamaat only needs to be wlinked once or twice in the article; same with common words like Islam, Alan Craig, etc.
    •  Done
  • Not sure where the Public relations section fits in...(just personally)
    • I thought it was interesting that the mosque decided to engage a PR firm which has set up a professional website and YouTube page. So did the press :) -- Avi (talk) 16:20, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • "In July of 2007" --> In July 2007, "In September of 2007" --> In September 2007
    •  Done
  • "until November of 2007" --> until November 2007
    •  Done
  • "when the link was removed" - this is evident as you provide an "until" date, so you can remove these words
    •  Done

An interesting read. Please leave a note on my talk page when done with this. Cheers, dihydrogen monoxide (H2O) 07:20, 14 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Saudi links removal/balance to the statement[edit]

"The allegations were based on Tablighi Jamaat's being a Deobandi Muslim organization that has close links with the form of the religion practiced by the Saudi royal family.[5]"

Links between Deobandis and Saudi Arabia? Saudi Arabia is Wahhabi (Wahhabism) not Deobandi, this is very inaccurate as Deobandis have far eastern origins (India) and Wahhabism originates in Saudi Arabia, either this should be removed or the statement needs to be balanced to show the origins of the two as this does highlight the doubt of Saudi Funding which is a major allegation of this mosque. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pirretjp (talkcontribs) 14:56, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That information comes from the Guardian article by Jamie Doward. If you have reliably sourced and verifiable information that relates to this, please bring it. But removing properly sourced and cited information because you personally disagree with it is not allowed. There is no POV problem when it is properly sourced and cited. -- Avi (talk) 15:11, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Major changes to article[edit]

Any substantive changes to this article, especially those that are removing information that is properly and validly cited, needs to be discussed here first. Thank you. -- Avi (talk) 15:15, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

'Missionary'[edit]

I removed the word 'Missionary' and replaced it with 'support & revitalization' as Missionary is an inappropriate & incorrect word due to its denotation- a missionary works to convert people NOT of one's faith to its own faith; Tablighi Jamaat (as is well-known...) is more of a support & revitalization organization which targets muslims (not non-muslims) & aims to help + encourage them to become better practicing men of faith (as opposed to institutionally targeting non-muslims with the view of converting them-- which as many of us living in the Western World know is not a rare occurrence at our front-doors from various missionaries-- mostly Christian sects & denominations: the most famous being the JHVH's witnesses & The Mormons.

Just clarifying & explaining.

Regards. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.105.125.59 (talk) 01:35, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please bring sources for this. -- Avi (talk) 02:24, 2 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm the source! lol. No, it's well-known fact amongst the muslim community. I mean it's not like T.Jamaat has a website haha, or any sort of proper regularly updated and circulated publications or PR-work.

So as for that citation, I'll look for one when I have time.

but fact is... a missionary's sole purpose is to approach people and seek to convert those ppl who are not of their faith, TO their faith. That is not what Tablighi jamaat does. Read the wikipedia page on them... they are a movement aimed at, and who work within MUSLIM communities.

http://www.inter-islam.org/Miscellaneous/jamaat.htm <-- just google'd tablighi jamaat, and this article if you would even skim-read it... explains so. It's aimed at reaching MUSLIMS.. and revitalizing them... helping THEM to become more practicing. That's their aim & method of work. It's not to conduct outreach to non-muslims & do missionary work.

The sources brought in the TJ article refer to it as a missionary movement, IIRC, which is why that is the appropriate term unless you can find a verifiable and reliable source that says otherwise. Thank you. -- Avi (talk) 06:39, 4 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA reassessment needed[edit]

I don't have the time to properly set this up right now, but this article as it stands is not of GA-quality (for starters, the text says it has a 2,500 capacity, but the infobox claims 3,000; and it has multiple tags since more than a year). Fram (talk) 13:36, 6 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Fram: I rewrote the lead. When the article passed GA it was in decent shape, but as it was a project in development it appears additional developments have been added into the lead. As to the capacity discrepancy, one of the sources says in the region of 2500[1] while the other says 3000[2]. I am pretty sure google map place info is user updated so will be more inclined to believe the other source (which doesn't fill one with much confidence either).Anyway I have found this newspaper update[3] and will use it to update the article. Let me know if you still want to take it to reassessment. AIRcorn (talk) 22:27, 22 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I am going to remove the request now as I don't think it needs a reassessment. You are welcome to start one yourself if you wish by following the instructions at WP:GAR. AIRcorn (talk) 23:24, 5 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
