I'm Mark A. Mandel, until November 2013 a research administrator at the Linguistic Data Consortium of the University of Pennsylvania, now retired. I sometimes style myself

I am still interested in languages, as well as folk music, filk music, science fiction, and other things. Including my cat.

I wrote my dissertation on American Sign Language (Ph.D. in Linguistics, University of California at Berkeley), and I've studied lots more languages to a greater or lesser degree. Languages I've worked with in recent years* include Thai, Tagalog, Pashto, Tigrinya, Moroccan Berber, Yoruba, Bengali, Tamil, and Urdu. I also developed and maintained the LDC's Language Resource Wiki (now defunct).[1]

Wikipeda favicon for desktop[edit]

I just created File:Wikipedia W favicon on white background.png from the official File:Wikipedia's W.svg so I could use it on my personal desktop, and uploaded it to Commons so anyone else can use it, too. ☺ Not under any copyright, but note potential trademark limitations.

  • In MobileBeta front end, clicking in TOC does not go to a subsection whose parent section is unexpanded on the page. (15.04.05)
  • mobile beta: warning icon ⚠, truncated, is triplicated at the top of a page where it appears (15.02.13)
  • Mobile beta: "Speech balloons" icon on user talk page misgenerates target page name and reports "no conversations" (14.11.15)
