Suspected sockpuppets

Evidence submitted by Uncle G

All of these are single-purpose accounts focussed around Harry Benjamin's Syndrome (AfD discussion) (under its various titles). It's pretty clear from behavioural evidence alone (such as the WP:AN/I edits) that 83.165.153.211 and 88.2.224.215 are one and the same. However, I suspect that one or more of the other listed accounts are part of the same pattern of sockpuppetry. The on-wiki evidence of sockpuppetry can be found in es:Special:Contributions/CharlotteGoiar and es:Special:Contributions/Marta314, whose edit timings are too close for the accounts not to be at least connected off-wiki. Unusually, there is also discussion of sockpuppetry off-wiki. I won't go into details, merely say that other people have asserted in other places, wholly independent of Wikipedia, that "Charlotte Goiar" is one of a set of pseudonyms used with the intent of presenting the fiction that one person is several. (Actually, they say that and a lot worse, but I'm not going to go into details or repeat the rest for obvious reasons.)

For discussions that this is not only skewing but outright disrupting, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Harry Benjamin's Syndrome (taking particular note of the undoes and reversions in its edit history) and Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2009 September 19#Harry Benjamin Syndrome. These three IPs all appear to be connected, per the duck test: at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Harry Benjamin's Syndrome, they make the same arguments (including the same talking points and the same writing style, and the same formatting habits such as not leaving signatures), and the edit history shows their edits to be in complementary distribution (i.e., no periods of overlap when two or more of these IPs are editing at once), suggesting they are operated by the same individual. Geolocating with http://www.ip2location.com/demo.aspx puts them all in the city of Vigo, in northwestern Spain. These accounts all argue in favor of the user CharlotteGoiar (and, indeed, the AfD is over an article whose main source is the website http://shb-info.org/ , which is maintained by a person whose real name is Charlotte Goiar and who is the author of some self-published papers posted on that website. According to WHOis, that website is registered to Charlotte Goiar, also in the city of Vigo. Requesting a checkuser on User:CharlotteGoiar, and all accounts blocked to prevent further disruption to the AfD (which they are already flooding with long and/or off-topic comments repeatedly). rʨanaɢ talk/contribs 18:29, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • I have warned the sock master about their recent abusive sockpuppetry. Any further abuse in this manner will most likely result in a block. --Kanonkas :  Talk  15:13, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Conclusions

Confirmed that CharlotteGoiar (talk · contribs) has edited from two of the IPs listed above. 74.124.187.76 is completely unrelated. There is insufficient evidence to make a firm statement about Marta and the other IP one way or the other. Thatcher 20:42, 23 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • I've blocked 83.165.153.211 and 88.2.224.215, with block lengths timed to prevent further disruption of the on-going AFD/RFD discussions. CharlotteGoiar I've left unblocked. I've also visited both the AFD and RFD discussions, removing unnecessary duplicate notices, striking through sockpuppetry, and removing off-topic sockpuppetry discussion.  Clerk note: Marking as closed, since the IPs have been blocked. I'll leave it to the remaining admins overlooking this case as to how to deal with CharlotteGoiar and hence will not tag any accounts. MuZemike 04:01, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Suspected sockpuppets [edit]

Evidence submitted by Jokestress [edit]

SPA sleeper account focused on promoting a fake disease called Harry Benjamin Syndrome/Harry Benjamin's Syndrome (both deleted) is back to try to erase article on a real disease called Benjamin syndrome: AfD nom. Marta314 has been banned on Spanish Wikipedia [1] and is returning here after failing to get reinstated. [2] Update: Just nominated the same article in Spanish for deletion using account Marta22. Here for nothing but disruption. Jokestress (talk) 05:52, 10 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
