This page is for requests to have stewards grant or revoke administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights on Wikimedia projects which do not have a local permissions procedure.

Old sections are archived. The list of archives is below.

  • Requests for bot flags are handled at SRB, and requests for global permissions are handled at SRGP.
  • If you are requesting adminship or bureaucratship, and your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (index).
  • For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewardsconnect IRC channel. In emergencies, type !steward in the channel to get the attention of stewards. Otherwise, you can type @steward for non-urgent help.

Other than requests to remove your own access or emergencies, please only make requests here after gaining the on-wiki approval of your local community.

Using this page

1. Place the following code at the bottom of the appropriate section below:

Username@xxproject
(your remarks) ~~~~

2. Fill in the values:

  • domain: the wiki's URL domain (like "ex.wikipedia" or "meta.wikimedia").
  • user name: the name of the user whose rights are to be changed (like "Exampleuser"). In case you're requesting access for multiple bots, leave this field blank and give a list of these bots in your remarks
  • discussion: a link to the local vote or discussion about the rights change (for example, "ex:Wikipedia:Requests_for_adminship#ExampleUser"). This should normally be for at least one week, but no more than three weeks (if so, you'll need to restart the process).

3. If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information.

Confirmation of signing confidentiality agreement

Certain permissions (notably CheckUser and Oversight) additionally require users to sign a confidentiality agreement. Users requesting these permissions must make a request below, and must also sign the confidentiality agreement with the Wikimedia Foundation. The request is placed on hold temporarily, until the receipt has been formally confirmed by the Office.

Ukabia@igwikipedia

I want to renew my administrator access, I have been the only active admin on the Igbo wikipedia for years, and I need access to maintain the pages that I restricted to admins. There's nobody there tending the wiki. Ukabia 17:47, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please, post a note on an appropriate page in this wiki. Ruslik 18:40, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
If I post a note nothing will happen, this is what happened last time I applied for administrator access. http://ig.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Nz%E1%BB%8Dr_ogbako Ukabia 17:22, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
 On hold until July 17. Jafeluv 08:13, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Kilavagora@xmfwikipedia

Wiki just launched. I want to request temporary admin rights, until community will be settled down. Kilavagora 16:49, 13 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'd recommend permanent amidships to you and მარგალონა. Also, amidship for Alsandro would help you a lot.--George M. 18:01, 13 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Please start a local discussion. Matanya 07:27, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

B20180@thwikiquote

I want to request temporary admin rights in thwikiquote, until community will be settled down. Because no have anybody delete in requests for deletion for a long time. Some pages have very impolite sentence and many rude words. I work in th.wikiquote. And I have administrator experience in th.wikipedia. Best Regards. --B20180 11:00, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

please start a local discussion Matanya 12:20, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Umm... I afraid no one vote in thwikiquote. Because in this project seem quiet and lonely. However; Can you delete they page in th:q:หมวดหมู่:คำที่ถูกแจ้งลบ ? Thank you. --B20180 13:25, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
According to policy you must start a local discussion, if no one will vote, it will just be easier. will delete the page. Matanya 13:27, 15 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Seksen iki yüz kırk beş@trwikinews

Bureaucrat access

Steward requests/Permissions/Crat-header

User MikaelF@kuwikipedia

Could you give bureaucrat status (and adminstrator status) to the User:MikaelF. We have two bureaucrats but they are no longer active hence my request. Thanks in advance.--Ghybu 10:01, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

On hold - Erdal Ronahi has edited a bit in May and has email enabled. I don't see either any note on his talk page. Attempts to contact them should be made first before. Note@stewards: if no response is produced admin looks OK for me but 'crat requires higher ratio number of votes IIRC? -- Dferg ☎ talk 11:52, 9 July 2011 (UTC) Corrected. -- Dferg ☎ talk 08:38, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Higher support ratio than 100% would be impossible, but it's true that some people argued for a minimum number of votes for electing bureaucrats in the RfC. AFAIK that hasn't been officially closed or made into policy, though. Jafeluv 08:17, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed. I meant votes. The consensus seems to be that but yes, it's not yet closed. Would that happen one day? :-) --Dferg 08:38, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it'd be great to get that closed with a consensus decision, but we would first need to actually agree on some of the points FWIW, the /Minimum voting requirements page, which I believe is supposed to be used as a sort of non-binding guideline, describes the minimum as 15-20 votes over a minimum two weeks, with a support ratio of 80%. In my personal opinion that's an extremely high standard and not really the current practice, though. Jafeluv 08:52, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've commented here. -- Dferg ☎ talk 09:08, 11 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

CheckUser access

Steward requests/Permissions/CU-header

Oversight access

To request to have content oversighted, ask in #wikimedia-stewards, or email oversight-l@lists.wikimedia.org for requests regarding English Wikipedia. This is the place to request Oversight access. Note that temporary Oversight access is not permitted and the temporary status is only used by Stewards.

Stewards
Do not grant Oversight access unless the user is identified to the foundation, which will be announced on the Identification noticeboard. When you give someone oversight access, list them on Oversight.

Removal of access

<translate>

  • If you're requesting the removal of your own permissions, make sure you're logged in to your account. If you have multiple flags, specify which you want removed. Stewards may delay your request a short time to ensure you have time to rethink your request (see previous discussion on 24 hour delays); the rights will not be restored by stewards once they are removed.
  • To request the removal of another user's permissions, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, provide a link to the discussion, with a brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion. However, as bureaucrats of some wikis may remove users from the administrator or bureaucrat group, please see also a separate list of these specific wikis.
  • To request the removal of another user's permissions for inactivity, link to your local inactivity policy. If your site does not have inactivity policy, the global policy Admin activity review applies.
  • See the instructions above for adding new requests. Please post new requests at the bottom of the section.</translate>

Vpovilaitis@lt.wikipedia

I, as a sysop of lt.wikipedia project, on behalf of the community request the removal of sysop and bureaucrat rights of user Vpovilaitis. The user had several accounts which he used to vote for himself when he nominated himself for candidacy to bureaucrats. Also, he used those accounts in other votings to give an impression that his ideas are generally accepted by the community. Therefore, Vpovilaitis lost the trust of the community. To sum up the voting, 13 people including five administrators two of whom are bureaucrats voted for the removal of sysop and bureaucrat rights. 8 people including 3 administrators voted against the removal of the rights. The user in the first days of voting did not confess to having cheated nor apologize to the community, only after usercheck he confessed and apologized (sincerity is doubtful), later he admitted to having second sock-puppet account. Tomreves 12:16, 13 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Tomreves, I'm afraid that current result is not enough clear. Could you extend the voting by one or two weeks? - I hope it would help to clarify the result. In the case of extreme abuse, please request emergency desysop. Regards, LeinaD (t) 15:23, 13 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
We will wait another week, but the results are quite clear, I suppose you should at least remove his bureaucrat rights now, as far as the results of his election are fraudulent due to the fact that the aforesaid user used sock-puppet accounts to vote for himself and boost the results of the vote on his behalf.Tomreves 08:38, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The voting is according to the rules agreed by the community (1). The voting ends today, therefore I see no way or reason to extend the voting. If the stewards would decide to ignore the rules of the community - let it be, but extending the voting is not acceptable, especially, taking into account that everyone had a chance to show their opinion on the issue.--dirgela 17:35, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Done, per local vote and Leinad's agreement. Matanya 17:55, 14 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mass removal of Admin rights on En.Wikipedia

Status:    Done

en:Wikipedia:Village pump (proposals)/suspend sysop rights of inactive admins passed with an overwhelming consensus and is now part of Admin policy. The procedural removal of Admin rights needs to be preformed on some 200 inactive Admins. Cheers The Resident Anthropologist (talk)•(contribs) 17:47, 3 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I'm not sure the desysoppings are supposed to take place yet...looking at the new policy as of this version, the accounts are supposed to be notified a month in advance before they are desysopped, and again a couple of days before. The new policy was only implemented in the last few days, and to my knowledge the accounts haven't been notfied yet. Of course, I may have missed something. Acalamari 18:16, 3 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Matanya said on IRC that it's too late, because he's nearly done. However, he's stopped removing flags now, for what it's worth. — Waterfox ~talk~ 18:35, 3 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Matanya just said on IRC that it would be stupid to not finish those few left. He said that if anybody complains, stewards or local bureaucrats will grant the rights back. So, all done now. — Waterfox ~talk~ 18:41, 3 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The request was definitely premature per the process that was approved, but the harm is negligible since the policy permits a returning user to request restoration of their rights with little difficulty. At least so far no one seems to be overly upset, although who knows what will happen once word spreads. But either way what's done is done, and any fixing can be handled by the local bureaucrats on en-wiki. --RL0919 20:20, 3 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • FYI this request is being discussed at wikipedia:WP:BN#Removal of Sysop right for inactive Admins. –xeno 00:02, 4 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • There has been commentary to the effect that the request was premature. I've asked the steward that actioned the request whether anything went wrong at the steward end and what could be done to avoid something like this again. Would it be possible for other stewards to give their opinions on this, or point to a place where any systemic failures (if any) could be discussed? For example, if a higher standard of scrutiny applied to mass rights removal requests than individual ones? Should you need more than one steward to agree to a mass removal action? Carcharoth 10:53, 10 July 2011 (UTC) Update: Matanya asked me to say in the relevant places that they have said this. Not sure if they only meant to say that on en-wiki, but pointing it out here as well. Carcharoth 12:05, 10 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

RoboServien@nds-nl.wikipedia

Hi there, can someone revoke RoboServien's administrator status on the nds-nl wiki, since this is a bot which is no longer needed for this purpose. BTW: why is it not possible to revoke another administrator's rights as a bureaucrat? Would have been easier.

Thanks in advance! Servien 21:51, 13 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
